Unika Enterprises commenced operations in 1986, to enable new business ventures of technology industries, building on its proprietor’s intensive training, involvement in launch marketing and corporate development functions at a leading engineering group, ‘Jyoti’ that pioneered the development and manufacture of several energy systems in India.
To list some accomplishments, among the 30-odd launches over the decades by this enterprise:

1) Import substitution projects in association with M/s Pharma & Engg Industries, Baroda:

- High-frequency SMPS and OEM power supplies earlier imported by various OEMs;

- Sample gas cooler and other gas analysis accessories for various Mannessman Hartmann & Braun licensees in India by PEI. Since 1986-87, products are on regular supply to leading process-control systems integrators including Instrumentation Ltd, Honeywell, Chemtrols, CG Newage etc.;

- Development of electro-phoretic dip-painting and pulsed plating systems including special-purpose rectifiers, dip- tanks, handling system, water-chiller and control panel. Users include Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, Khira Steel Works besides small finishing job-shops.

2) De-bottle-necking and expansion projects of Ezy Group of companies, Halol-based manufacturers of slide fasteners for (Madura) Coates Viyella , etc:

- In-house design & system integration of 5kW special-purpose MG set for zip NC sewing shop;

- Introduction of speed and tension control applications of drives and counters;

- Project coordination for new polyester zip fastener dyeing, setting and finishing shop Rhino;

- Project documentation for proposed 100% EOU to manufacture speciality zips for world markets.

3) Launch of Numerex (USA) 3D measuring machines agency for P Dalal & Co Pvt Ltd, Mumbai;

4) Launch of Tata BP Solar PV products in Gujarat State, by Tata BP dealers M/s Mistral Processing.

5) Launch and marketing support for digital counters and Mini Timer for Selectron Process Controls, Mumbai, leading to initial annual sales of Rs 1.00 Crore. Present turnover is about Rs 3 Crores;

6) Launch and on-going promotions of `Drivebox' DC drive modules, `Drivepak' drive systems, `Varipak' RMS / SCR controller, `Firebox' SCR trigger units for M/s Modular Systems, Mumbai. This firm continues to innovate power electronics solutions for bulk process industries;

7) Content, publicity & IT documentation, for IT start-up inteliNET software pvt ltd., Mumbai;

Pip Communications, commencing business in 1994 as a partnership with a creative services studio, to concentrate on the communication needs of new ventures, interacts with clients and their advertising agencies. Technical communication is a key strength. 

Significant assignments (copywriting, visualising, production) here are:

1) Corporate brochure and identity package to support export drive and distinct entity for Acrylic & Tyre Cord operations (ATC Group) in JK Synthetics Ltd, by agency Axis Advertising Pvt Ltd;

2) Corporate brochure and direct marketing communications for proposed Euro Issue by Stanrose (Mafatlal) Group, by the same agency;

3) Various instruction manuals, application notes, data-sheets, CAD conversions including 3-D modelling, exhibition displays and presentations;

4) Technical literature for Latin America export drive of Navin Fluorine Industries;

5) Technical literature for launch of ball valves _ comprehensive range - by Virgo Engineers Ltd. in collaboration with M/s SFEROVA of Italy;

6) Comprehensive catalogue for the world-leading mould base, moulding systems and tool-room supplies manufacturer, D-M-E Company (India) Ltd., to support Indian launch;

7) Literature and direct mailers for launch of Godrej Infotech Ltd as independent identity.

IT solutions & multimedia communications: High-end graphics & multimedia presentations as well as enterprise solutions for value chains, distribution, ad campaigns and document management systems besides CAD conversion and rapid prototyping coordination - to empower corporate projects, marketing & communications programmes with wider, secure and rapid information sharing; thus to assure wider reach, reduced cycle times and reduced decision-making points. Systems integration involving clients' product applications is provided to ensure a complete range of technical support services. These encompass energy systems, ICT, machine & process controls.

Consultancy to building owners and establishment managers is provided in association with M/s Project Designers, a group of architects, designers and engineers, www.prodes.com/pd/uc.htm , in selecting electronics and appropriate energy systems for residential, office and industrial premises.

Consultancy to manufacturers includes complete project documentation besides coordination of special inputs like tool-ups, rapid prototyping and CAD conversion to facilitate product development and coordination with contractors and vendors for smooth implementation.

Proprietor's publications include articles in Economic & Political Weekly, BMA Review, Search, TC-F, Industrial Product Finder, Electronic Product Finder, IREDA News on subjects related to technical communication, solar energy, DC drives, energy savers etc. 

Other Interests are chiefly in emerging technologies and issues of environment, energy and communication. This also involves participation in forums and list-server discussion of bodies like Technical Communicators Forum, Technical Writers of India (TWIN) as mentor, Global Knowledge for Development, Exnora International, Simputer and Hawking Communicator Project.

Relevant background: In addition to a science and electrical engineering education plus executive experience in a variety of corporate diversification ventures and some turnkey projects, the proprietor strove to develop a scientific approach to business growth from his own experiences in launch work and that of the expanding industry around. Studied the science of growth EKS or Cybernetic Management Strategy, leading to an Advance Management Diploma in 1988 from the Wolfgang Mewes Verlag of Germany, via a joint programme with the Baroda Productivity Council.
